I carved my first pumpkin...ever!

On Sunday I carved my first pumpkin ever. It was a family activity and we had a lot of fun. Aiden picked out the stencil... so we carved a skull. Aiden was really grossed out by the pumpin "guts" and wouldn't help clean it out, but he was all about trying to help cut on it!

Not about knitting...but about life...

Its been a week I don't want to have to repeat any time soon.

My sister's ex-husband passed away. He had pulmonary hypo-tension and passed away at age 29 leaving two little boys behind. My nephews are almost 7 and 8 years old. The receiving of friends and service last night were a nightmare. I feel so bad for the boys. My sister broke down badly a couple of times. I was proud of her though, she was strong for the boys and mostly held it together. She's only 24. She has gone through so much in her young life. Even though I disagree with a lot of the choices she makes, I'm very proud of her.

Magic Loop

I had my first sock class this week and must say I've already learned a bunch! Dawn is a very good teacher! We're using the Crazy toes and heels book by Mary Ann Beattie (Queen Kahuna). We chose the fan toe and cast on. Now this is my 3rd pair of socks and so far I like this toe best. I'm using Noro sock yarn (yummy) and can't wait to wear these socks!

I decided to try magic loop and cast on both socks... so the bad part is that instead of 5 inches of sock for the next class I have to knit 10... for both socks... this is also a good thing because my socks will be finished faster and I won't have 2nd sock shock syndrome! I'm getting the hang of magic loop and am now wondering why anyone would ever knit with dpns if they don't have to?

Christmas presents galore...

Since my last entry I've finished Dad's socks! Woo Hoo!! Sam tried them on and is finding them quite compfy. Hope Dad likes them as much! I'm glad they're done... while I'm really happy with them I was REALLY tired of looking at that gray/beige color!

I washed and blocked the ribbed scarf I knit with Noro a few weeks ago and was really surprised with the change. The yarn really bloomed out beautifully. I'm not sure who will be getting this one for Christmas yet... but I'm sure whoever does will love it.

Talked to Tante Patin last weekend and found out she is allergic to most yarn/fabric except cotton. Well, I did find some pretty cotton to knit with, but she is now getting a scarf instead of the socks I had planned. I'm using Berrocco Cotton Twist which is a bitch to work with... it keeps splitting. I had to stick to a pretty simple pattern because its slippery and split crazy, but I do like how its looking and the shiny little bit of Rayon is really pretty.

I had signed up for 3 classes at my LYS. Unfortunately the lace scarf class was canceled since I was the only one to sign up.... soo.... I started the Double Dayflower scarf on my own and I think its going pretty well so far. I've got the pattern repeat done once so far and I think I can handle this! Of course I can only handle it when I pay attention only to my knitting and mutter to myself... but its looking pretty!

My sock class starts on Wednesday and then it will be on to my first sweater... found buttons for it this weekend.

Happy Knitting!!!

First sweater and other classes

I've signed up for my first sweater class at my LYS. I have chosen some beautiful lime yarn for my sweater! I really wanted something kind of subtle with maybe some variegation in it, but then I spotted the lime and fell in love. It is my favorite color after all. The pattern is from Knitting Pure & Simple and its the V Neckdown Cardigan for Women.

I'm also taking a sock class and a lace scarf class... I'm excited about both of these... will be my first lace. I looked at the scarf pattern and its very pretty... but I don't remember the name or who its by since I don't actually have it yet. The sock class is using Crazy Toes and Heels by Queen Kahuna and the book looks like a lot of fun!

As far as what is on my needles... I'm finished with the heel on one of Dad's socks and almost done with the other. Then only the ribbed cuff to go! I'm just going to knit until the yarn is completely gone for the cuff length. I'm further along on the socks by now... but here is a picture to see the lovely color... :)
